Banja has a new home. Read below how Banja is doing.

Banja has been here almost 1 month, and she is just perfect! She loves the cats, and licks their little heads and grooms them. When she is asleep the cats come up to her and kiss her nose. She loves them as if they were her babies. Banja always follows me everywhere--from room to room and even sits outside the shower and waits for me.
At night, she sleeps on a comforter next to my bed. She lies on her back and pulls my hand down with her paw--and i have to hold her paw until we both fall asleep.
She has been going to Doggie Day care with Churchill and the vet is quite impressed with her. They did not have to muzzle her for any part of the exam. Everyone at Doggie Day care / vets office keeps checking on Banja and everyone knows her. They think is quite exceptional and have never seen a German Shepherd with her temperment before. She is worth every penny!
I am getting the Invisible Fence repaired. There was a break in it that i did not know about. Once they finish that up, I will let you know.

Update from Doggie day care: BANJA had a great time snooping around the Nature Park and the nature trails with Mike and while out met Zeke the Boxer! Banja also enjoyed visiting and playing in the gym with Churchill and all of us…Mike, Sharon, and Shannon!
Just wanted to drop a quick note about how Banja is doing.
She never leaves my side, and when I go into another room she is right beside me. Naturally, Banja has an assortment of toys / balls throughout the house. At night, she goes into all the different rooms and gathers up her toys and puts them in a little group on her bed so she can sleep with them. That must be the herding instinct--rounding up the toys. She loves to sleep with her toys!
She also likes to watch animal planet and really responds when the other dogs bark or especially when the wolves howl!
She is exceptionally gentle with the cats and thinks of them as sickly looking puppies ,because she is always trying to lick their heads. Sometimes she sleeps with one orange cat, Dixie Sue. They sometimes curl up together.
She and Churchill play together a bit and they dont fight anymore, and will both sit and wait for a treat. He is really glad she is here.
I am amazed at her temperment. She is really the most incredible dog!
I speak to her in German, and she never corrects my grammar. My grandchildren want books on how to learn German for Christmas so they can talk to Banja. Their German is coming along really well because of her!
I think i should get all my dogs from you in the future!
Happy Holidays!

Banja is amazing!
I dont know if you know this, but I get terrible migraine headaches. The doctors cant figure out how to cure them and they are quite debilitating. I have to keep a journal of everything I eat, temperature outside, emotions, stress at work, etc....to try to figure out what triggers the migraine.
Anyway, I have noticed that sometimes Banja will jump up on me and push me (gently) into a chair and then jump up on me and lick my left eye. I could not figure out why she was doing this and tried to correct her so she would stop. About an hour later, I would get a migraine. This would happen several times, and then one time, during the migraine she jumped up and licked my left eye--which was exactly the spot of the migraine. Then it finally occurred to me that Banja knows 1 hour before the migraine hits and she has been trying to warn me. So now when she does it, we celebrate and I give her a treat and take my migraine medicine, which sometimes prevents the attack, or greatly reduces the intensity of it.
I have researched migraine alert dogs and have found that dogs cant be trained to detect this--but it is an outcome from a close bond between the owner and the dog. Banja and I are really, really close!
I have to research the laws, but i might be able to turn her into a service dog (migraine alert dog--which falls under the category of seizure alert dog).
This is a tremendous help to me, because sometimes I am reluctant to leave my house incase I am an hour away from home and a migraine hits. But with a 1 hour notice from Banja, I would not have to worry about getting stranded before the next migraine hits.
As you know, she is fully and perfectly trained in obedience and protection work (as she would have to pass a Good Citizen test) and should have some basic protection work. Since she has titles in all these areas from Germany, she might be able to skip the tests. Also, she has to pass the temperment test, but she has an excellent temperment and could easily go anywhere. So I dont think there is too much work to get her "certified".
I would need to train her to 1) get my medicine for me (as sometimes I am unable to get it for myself) and 2) bring me a bottle of Coke (caffeine). But I dont think that would be hard.
If you have any information on this I would appreciate it. In the meantime, I will contact the Delta Society and see about getting her certified.
She is such a blessing! I am going to get all my German Shepherds from you!
